The catalyst for revitalizing, beautifying and energizing downtown Grants
The catalyst for revitalizing, beautifying and energizing downtown Grants
Grants MainStreet Project, Inc. is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization whose mission is to revitalize and beautify the Grants MainStreet District.
Our work uses the Four-Point Approach to promote, design, organize, and revitalize businesses, properties, and street.
We are an economic developer on a small scale. Looking at ways to assist commerce and find solutions to the needs of businesses and property owners inside the MainStreet District.
The Grants MainStreet District encompasses the most commercial buildings within a mile 1/2 span. The district starts at the west side of town on Wayne Street & Santa Fe Avenue (Route 66); It covers eastward to Anderman Street & Santa Fe Avenue (Route 66); It then covers north along the Rio San Jose and includes properties along Mountain Road and High Street.
We mentioned the Four-Point Approach earlier and here is the concept explained a little further. Here are each of the points and their significance to small scale economic development:
Organization:
Building capacity for the organization by finding volunteers (both regular and administrative) and funding through grant opportunities, sponsors, and donation campaigns. The organization work is driven by the Executive Director and Organization Committee. The organization committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for new Board Members and Executive Committee Members. The committee also helps draft implementation plans and provides insight to the financial committee to make sure the books are in the black.
Promotion:
Hosting events, writing newsletters, and helping spread the word about exciting things in the MainStreet District is what the Promotion Committee is about. The promotion work is implemented by the Executive Director and Promotion Committee. Members of the Promotion Committee brainstorm and use creative ideas to provide fun, exciting, and meaningful events to citizens and tourists of Grants, NM. The work also includes managing social media accounts, designing fliers, posters, promotional materials, billboards, etc.
Design:
Landscapes and skyscrapers are the focus of the Design Committee. While there aren't any skyscrapers in Grants, properties in general are the focus of the Design Committee. Historic Preservation, Property Restoration, Property Development, Building Improvements, and Place Making are the virtues by which the Design Committee live by. The work is pushed by the Executive Director and Design Committee. The committee has the power and responsibility to create a style and theme in building aesthetics and street-scapes. It is the design work that is most meaningful, and long lasting. It is the design work that is the most important for Grants to see a change in it's economy and community.
Economic Vitality:
Connecting people and resources to help bring about better business practices, more profitable business, and better business relationships. The EV Committee is charged with being the face that businesses see to request help. Committee members work on finding new businesses a home in the MainStreet District, take data from businesses to compile reports, and provide training to help small businesses thrive in an ever-changing market.
